On the occasion of his 80th birthday in October 2000, several state museums in Berlin under the curatorship of June Newton, organised a major retrospective of work by the Berlin-born photographer Helmut Newton. First shown at the Neue Nationalgalerie in Berlin, the 250 photographs document Newton's work from 1960 to the present. The exhibition covers all aspects of Newton's photographic oeuvre, concentrating on new and unpublished projects. The show includes portraits, fashion photos, advertising shots, nudes, montage and experimental work, notably the "Big Nudes" and other nude photos of "strong" women. The accompanying catalogue, published by Manfred Heiting with an essay by Francoise Marquet, is available from Benedikt Taschen Verlag, Cologne (300 pages, for the price of DM 39).
