JAZZ JOURNALISTS ANNOUNCE JAZZ AWARDS 2008

NEW YORK, 23 JUNE 2008— Pianist Herbie Hancock (b. 1940) was named Musician of the Year at the 12th annual Jazz Awards on 18 June at a barbeque lunch at the Jazz Standard in New York. The Jazz Journalists Association's award for lifetime achievement in jazz went to the 90-year-old British-born pianist Marian McPartland.

Based on votes cast by over 400 JJA members (writers, broadcasters, photograhers and new media professionals worldwide) the awards are as follows:
