This year's 6th annual Orchid Show is set against the backdrop of Singapore, one of the great orchid centers of the world. Over 10 million sprays of orchids are exported from this tiny island nation annually, amounting to 15 percent of the global market and part of a $20 million industry for Singapore.
In the Garden's Conservatory visitors are greeted by a southeast Asia-style pavilion, bursting with a multitude of tropical orchids such as vandas and dendrobiums, which are grown by the millions in Singapore.
Also featured are favorites such as Darwin's orchid, the vanilla orchid, the butterfly orchid, and miniature orchids, as well as rare species from the Garden's living collections that illustrate the breadth and diversity of this fascinating flower.
