UNITED STATES CLEVELAND • The Cleveland Museum of Art • Ongoing |
|
The show features 123 works, including the prints, the preparatory drawings for them, and the wood blocks from which they were printed. The prints depict village life, sailing scenes, still lifes, and abstract images. Works by Lazzell will be complemented by woodcuts executed by Provincetown artists Gustave Baumann, Ada Gilmore Chaffee, Mabel Hewit, Edna Boies Hopkins, Ethel Mars, Mildred McMillen, Bror Julius Olsson Nordfeldt, Maude Hunt Squire, and Grace Martin Taylor.
Born and raised in West Virginia, Blanche Lazzell was a member of a group of artists who resided in Provincetown, a fishing village on the tip of Cape Cold that had become an art colony.
