The American Institute of Architects (AIA) New Orleans Chapter hosts the 2nd Annual DesCours event, bringing five days of architecture, art, design and music to the streets, sidewalks and courtyards of New Orleans. Hidden spaces throughout the French Quarter and Central Business District are transformed into works of new media, interactive design and artistic technology that showcase local, national and international artists and architects.
This year, participating architects and artists include AEDS (Ammar Eloueini), Marcella del Signore + Frank Stevens, the collaborative architecture factory (the-caf), Evelina Domnitch +Dmitry Gelfand, Graffiti Research Lab, IwamotoScott Architecture, Khoury Levit Fong (Rodolphe el-Khoury + Robert Levit), kmostudio, Allison Kudla, Marty McElveen, The Mutable Line Collaborative (Marianne Desmarais, Michelle Gay, Liz Sargent), Nano, Peter Tolkin Projects, TZ.CO. (Thaddeus Zarse + Clare Olsen) among others
DesCours is free and open to the public and recommended to be viewed either on foot or by use of bicycle. The city’s public transportation system, which uses biodiesel fuel, will be providing bussing services as well as throughout the downtown area.
Nightly musical entertainment including Rebirth Brass Band, Kidd Jordan, and the Treme Brass Band enhance selected exhibits and courtyards over the course of the event. A reduced rate for bicycle rental will be offered at Bicycle Michael’s.
