In its 47th edition, some 350 film directors, actors and other filmmakers personally present their films at Karlovy Vary. About 850 distributors, sales agents, producers, and festival programmers attend the festival each year. About 700 journalists attend the Karlovy Vary IFF each year - many of them arriving from the Central and Eastern European countries to cover the biggest film event in the region.
Karlovy Vary, located 100 km from Prague in scenic Western Bohemia, is a world-famous spa founded in the 14th century. European royalty, artists, and composers frequented the spa to enjoy its healing thermal mineral waters.
As part of its 47th edition, the Karlovy Vary IFF will focus on one of the contemporary Turkish directors, Reha Erdem, as well as on a key figure of postwar French cinema, Jean-Pierre Melville. The festival will also honor the hundredth anniversary of the birth of Michelangelo Antonioni with a complete presentation of his documentary work.
Reha Erdem (b. 1960, Istanbul) will personally introduce all six of his movies produced thus far.
The festival center at Hotel Thermal also includes a festival shop offering festival T-shirts, bags, mugs, official festival catalogues, programs, DVDs and books from Czech and foreign publishers.
