The Nights of the Château de la Moutte festival was created in 1975 by Annette Troisier de Diaz (1917-2005), grand-daughter of Emile Ollivier, prime minister of France under Napoleon III who acquired the famous chateau and its elegant parc outside Saint-Tropez in 1860. The chateau's family library was of particular interest to historians and musicologists of the Second Empire.
