Jean-Jacques Rousseau and the Arts
FRANCE PARIS • Univeristy of Paris Pantheon Sorbonne • 29 June - 30 September 2012 |
|
To mark the tercentenary of the philosopher Jean-Jacques Rousseau's birth (1712-1778), more than 150 works and objects dedicated to the philosopher and his image are presented in Paris' Pantheon, a monument where he reposes in the midst of other great men.
This is a two-part exhibition presenting Rousseau and his work (Antiquity, books, music, nature) and Rousseau and his image (portraits, allegories, monuments, lionisation), concluding with an evocation of the Rousseau-Voltaire pairing.
The works are sourced mainly from the BNF in Paris, the British Library in London and the Louvre and Carnavalet museums.
