William Shakespeare: The Merry Wives of Windsor Royal Shakespearre Compamy
Sir John Falstaff is a man who knows how to have a good time. His only problem is that he's short on cash, but thinks he knows where he can get it. The wealthy wives of Windsor are the ideal target for a man of his considerable charms. At least that's how he sees it ...
Shakespeare's great comic knight rolls into the Royal Shakespeare Theatre in Winter 2012 in a tale of not so desperate housewives. Desmond Barrit returns to the RSC to once again play Falstaff following his Olivier Award nominated performance in the RSC's 2001 Henry IV Parts I & II.
Anita Dobson makes her RSC debut in the role of Mistress Quickly, following her recent role as Joan Crawford in the UK tour of Bette and Joan. She has also played Gertrude in ETT's Hamlet and was Olivier Award nominated for her role in Frozen at the National Theatre.
The production is directed by Phillip Breen whose recent credits include Sex with a Stranger (West End 2012) A Day in the Death of Joe Egg (Citizens Theatre, Glasgow) and Humphrey Ker is Dymock Watson: Nazi Smasher! at Edinburgh Fringe for which he won the 2011 Foster's Edinburgh Comedy Award (Best Newcomer).
