This installation focuses entirely on a marvellous icon of Mexican popular culture: the Vochol is a Volkswagen Beetle, decorated with glass beads in the age-old tradition of Mexico's Huichol culture. The project highlights the artistic ingenuity of one of Mexico's many indigenous cultures and shows that popular art is still topical in the 21st century.
After traveling through various cities in the Mexican Republic as well as in San Diego, Washington DC and Denver in the United States, Vochol® undertook yet another adventure which begun the first of September when it was shipped to Houston, Texas to embark on a transatlantic journey which would last 22 days with the Old Continent as its final destination.
From October 2nd to December 2nd of 2012 the Parisian public and foreign visitors had the opportunity to admire this jewel of popular art, symbol of the innovative spirit of the mexican craftsman, in the Musée du quai Branly, hosted by Stéphane Martin, director of the museum also known as the museum of first arts or the museum of arts and civilizations of Africa, Oceania, and the Americas (non-occidental) which each year receives approximately 1.5 million people.
From there it travelled to Germany to present itself from the 5th of December of 2012 to the 5th of January 2013, in the Autostadt, an important automobilistic complex located near the Volkswagen factory in Wolfsburg, a popular setting which attracts around 2 million visitors each year.
