DanceBrazil performs works that highlight the company's signature fusion of Capoeira, Afro-Brazilian and contemporary dance. Their spring 2013 visit to New York's Joyce Theater presents the premiere of Artistic Director Jelon Vieira's Fé do Sertão, a reflection on the faith, trust, and solid convictions of the people of Northeastern Brazil. Also on the program is Banguela (2010), a powerful and meditative work that showcases the capoeiristas' acrobatic wizardry in the "roda." As always, Capoeira, the mesmerizing martial art with an African beat, and live music drive the action on stage.
