Peru: Kingdoms of the Sun and the Moon
SEATTLE, WASHINGTON • Seattle Art Museum • 17 October 2013 - 5 January 2014
|This major exhibition of Peruvian art covers 3,000 years of history, including archaeological discoveries in recent decades. First seen at the Musée des beaux-arts de Montréal, the show features rarely seen sculpture, metalwork, painting and textiles spanning 3,000 years. Visitors are introduced to the rich heritage of ancient Peru, including superb works of the Mochica, Chimu and Inca cultures. Important paintings and sculptures from the Colonial and Vice-royal eras demonstrate the initial influence of Christianity, seen in radiant paintings of saints and liturgical processions.|
One of the many highlights includes the most complete set of adornments known today, a seven-piece set of head and body ornaments, made of an alloy of gold, silver and copper, gives an idea of the rich body ornamentation belonging to the Chimú elite.
