The Palestinian Joubran family has excelled in making handcrafted lutes for four generations. But the brothers Samir, Wissam and Adnan wanted to go beyond that reputation and, gradually, the younger ones joined Samir, forming a trio that elevates lute music to absolutely unprecedented levels. Regulars on the stages of the biggest festivals of world music, the Joubran brothers gained a name with the release, in 2008, of À L'Ombre des Mots, a tribute to the poet, intellectual and peace activist Mahmoud Darwich.
