The 30 expressive pieces included in this exhibition, of which some are dated from the 16th century, are of exquisite quality reveal the nature of this vital Japanese tradition. All major Noh mask examples are on display: ancient gods, immortals, young beauties, demons, and noblemen. The exhibited masks were carved by the most renowned carvers in Japanese history, such as Suminobo, artists of the Deme family and numerous others. This valuable collection has been handed down as the House of Naitō princely treasure, the presentation of which was made possible by the generous support of the City of Nobeoka.
