This traveling exhibition of Sumerian material from the University of Pennsylvania Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology showcases 425 objects excavated at the site of Ur, the Biblical homeland of Abraham in southern Iraq. In the late 1920s, Leonard Woolley discovered a cemetery here consisting of more than 1,800 graves dating to the second half of the third millennium B.C.

These tombs contained some of the most historically valuable examples of Sumerian art in the form of personal items such as weapons, jewelry, gaming boards, cosmetic containers, and stone and metal vessels, as well as the human remains of attendants, guards, and musicians that were sealed in the tombs along with the primary occupants.
