The exhibition brings forward the many different aspects of painting after it was detached from the realist tradition. The 300 works on view show how conceptions of humanity and the role of an artist changed, and what were turn-of-the-century utopias and everyday life like in Finland. The artists of this exhibition include Akseli Gallen-Kallela, Tyko Sallinen, Helene Schjerfbeck, and Ellen Thesleff.
